Shock absorbers are mechanisms designed to decelerate a moving object gently and gradually. They can function using either hydraulic fluid or compressed air and are utilized in numerous industrial and commercial settings. Pneumatic Resources supplies a selection of premium pneumatic shock absorbers, stopper collars, and mounting solutions from the trusted brand SMC.
How does a shock absorber function?
Shock absorbers are sealed units that rely on pressurized oil or air to create a cushioning or damping effect. This fluid or gas is pushed through internal valves that restrict flow, effectively absorbing kinetic energy, which is then safely released into the atmosphere.
Common uses for shock absorbers
These devices are implemented across various industries wherever impact energy needs to be absorbed. Common applications include:
Vehicle suspension systems
Automated machinery
Robotic assemblies
Pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders
Systems requiring vibration isolation
Vending and dispensing units
Pumping systems and motors
Linear motion actuators
Different kinds of shock absorbers
Shock absorbers are available in adjustable or self-adjusting formats. Adjustable models include a manual dial to fine-tune the response to the load. Self-compensating variants generally employ hydraulic oil that moves through precision orifices as the piston compresses.
The SMC shock absorbers with an acceptable eccentric angle of 5° are designed for effective impact and noise absorption, making them suitable for absorbing rotation energy.
Usable without a stopper nut
SMC RB Self Compensating Shock Absorber - Compact
Self Compensating
These shock absorbers have a steel body with Weartec - Plus (harsh environment) finish, hardened stainless steel piston rod, locknut and hardened steel rod end button with insert for noise suppression. Universal mounting and stop collar attachments are available separately.
The RBQ shock absorber has a double seal enclosure that consists of a scraper and a rod seal, provides extra insurance against leakage. RBQ has a compact design and an interchangeable damper as an option. The RBQ series shock absorbers are available in five sizes and all withstand an impact speed of 3 m/sec.
SMC RB Self Compensating Shock Absorbers
Automatically adjusts for high speed low load or low speed high load applications
Maximum impact speed 5m/s
At max energy absorption per cycle, max operating cycle/min can increase in proportion to energy absorption
Ambient temperature -10°C to +80°C
