Pneumatic grippers function by using compressed air to open and close their jaws—also known as fingers—which mimic the action of human hands by gripping, positioning, and handling objects. These grippers commonly feature either two or three fingers, and are powered by single or double-acting pneumatic cylinders for actuation.
The two primary configurations of pneumatic grippers are angular and parallel types. Among them, the parallel gripper is the most prevalent due to its straightforward design and adaptability to objects of varying sizes.
Pneumatic grippers are widely used in automation systems, from handling miniature components like semiconductors to manipulating large items such as automotive parts. They're also frequently integrated into robotic arms for tasks like pick-and-place operations and precise handling tasks in industrial settings.
Benefits of Using a Pneumatic Gripper
Delivers strong gripping force for reliable object handling
Compact and lightweight design enhances system efficiency
Cost-effective compared to other gripping technologies
Easy to install and customize for specific application needs
The SMC MHK2 series parallel gripper was designed to accommodate applications that require a high degree of accuracy in a wide range of environments. The finger action accuracy is accomplished through the use of a wedge cam mechanism, which allows repeat ability to +/-0.01mm and yields much higher axial load characteristics which permits use in insert press procedures. The gripper body is enhanced by a rear centring hole +/-0.1mm and two location pin holes with H9 tolerance. The MHK2 gripper is standard with a dust cover for protection against direct exposure to harsh environments (available in Chloroprene, Flouro, and Silicone Rubber) and has optional stainless steel fingers.
Bore size 16mm
Action D
Finger material carbon steel
The SMC MHK series wedge cam operated slide guide air gripper which provides dust cover for adverse environment. Due to the wedge structure it allows no lateral vibration along stroke direction once work is held. The finger material is carbon steel.
High rigidity
Improved performance
Auto switch mountable
Pin hole for positioning on top side
