Pneumatic grippers function by using compressed air to open and close their jaws—also known as fingers—which mimic the action of human hands by gripping, positioning, and handling objects. These grippers commonly feature either two or three fingers, and are powered by single or double-acting pneumatic cylinders for actuation.
The two primary configurations of pneumatic grippers are angular and parallel types. Among them, the parallel gripper is the most prevalent due to its straightforward design and adaptability to objects of varying sizes.
Pneumatic grippers are widely used in automation systems, from handling miniature components like semiconductors to manipulating large items such as automotive parts. They're also frequently integrated into robotic arms for tasks like pick-and-place operations and precise handling tasks in industrial settings.

The SMC gripper is a versatile pneumatic automation product that offers compact size and efficient gripping capabilities. It is designed for applications where space-saving is a priority. The gripper features two fingers that are synchronized by a rack and pinion mechanism, allowing for precise and reliable gripping. With an opening angle of 180 degrees, the gripper can easily grip various work pieces. Its durable construction and high gripping force make it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
Compact size for space-saving applications
Two-finger design with synchronized motion for precise gripping
180-degree opening angle for versatile gripping capabilities
Durable construction for long-lasting performance
High gripping force ensures secure hold on work pieces
The SMC Gripper from MHZ2 series is a standard type parallel air gripper, taking the place of the MHQ 2 series. A linear guide provides high rigidity and high accuracy. MHZ2 can operate under higher pressure even at a larger holding point and overhang. High degree of mounting precision is achieved and mounting repeatability is improved.
Long stroke type parallel gripper
Bore sizes from 10mm to 25mm available
Double acting and single acting available
Four finger options available
Auto switch capable
The SMC MHW2 Air gripper is ideal for applications where saving space is a necessity. In addition to its compact size, each one of the two fingers, synchronized by a rack and pinion, rotates back perpendicular to the gripper. In this position, the MHW2 will only require clearance for the body. While the fingers are retracted at a 180-degree angle, the gripper can be moved in an X-Y plane to the work.

MHF2 Low Profile Air Gripper
The MHF two finger pneumatic gripper compact design reduces bending moment, improves positional accuracy and saves space. Its double piston gripper construction provides a powerful griping force while remain compact and mounting flexibility is achieved by removing the need for brackets. Auto-switches can be mounted on either side using channels in the body.
